Lunch and Learn: Bone Health: Before the Crisis
What we'll cover
- What happens to bone during perimenopause and menopause
- Which tests matter, and when to get them
- Strength, protein, and nutrition that make a difference
- When hormone therapy and other treatments belong in the conversation
After the session...
Five questions to ask your physician
- "Have I had a bone density scan, and when should I?" A baseline is worth discussing before you're told you need one.
- "What's my fracture risk, not just my T-score?" Tools like FRAX combine age, history, and medications into a more useful picture.
- "Could any of my medications affect my bones?" Long-term steroids and acid reducers are common examples.
- "Which labs should we check?" Vitamin D, calcium, and thyroid are a good starting list.
- "Do my menopause symptoms and my bone health belong in the same plan?" Estrogen loss drives bone loss, so they often do.
Bonus: Planning surgery? Ask how your bone health could affect healing, and whether to optimize first.
